I often think, when the question of
why is brought up, about the roots of feminism. I wonder what the ladies at the beginning of this movement, a collective of women seeking a choice and a voice in a way that is for the first time organised to be recognised, would think about where we are now. I am proud that a lot of the things that have happened they would never even have thought of, but I also realise that they have brought up whole new crops of problems. I'm trying to figure out where solving a problem without creating too many new ones is. Another thing I question is whether they would agree with everything today's feminists are fighting for - I think many would disagree with things such as LGBT and the pro-choice perspective. This proves to me that there cannot ever really be a simple 'right' and 'wrong'. Everything is about perspective and circumstance.
So in the spirit of International Women's Day I wrote a letter to the first feminists (which I'm posting late as usual); I'd love to read one from a lil gal like me another hundred years on.

I love IWD, but my attitude to it is in part similar to things like Valentines and birthdays. Sure it's great to really celebrate people on a designated date, but I prefer to appreciate them year round. So I wish happy days to all females. And males - because feminism is after all about equality.
i like the letter and your handwriting and even just the idea of the letter.

This is so great, and yeah I agree with you about feminism being hard to pin down.
